Un colpo alla Wright

Luke Wright lists down Jaques Kallis and Andrew Flintoff as his inspirations and is, in fact, touted to fill Flintoff's very large shoes. He joined Sussex in 2004 and in that same year, was selected to represent England in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he took a hat trick against South Africa.

In 2007, he made his ODI debut and gave the English crowds a new reason to cheer with a half-century off just 39 balls! Not surprisingly, he scored a century in his debut match with Sussex. He was so successful with the club that, during his time there, he picked up the Dennis Compton Award for Most Promising Cricketer, thrice!

2011 saw Luke make the hard but sensible choice to shift his focus from test to limited overs cricket. A headline-making 44-ball hundred for Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash in Australia earlier in the year put him firmly back on the selectors radar and he was recalled to bat at number three in the recent World Twenty20. England failed to defend their title but Wright became the talk of the town, with memorable knocks of 99 not out and 76 in a very productive tournament for him.

Luke believes his decision to expand his horizons was essential to his return to form and we couldn't agree more. With many more tournaments coming up with such exciting opportunities, may the force be with you, Luke!
